Jennifer Manis Jennifer Manis
Diaconal Minister for Campus Ministry

Jennifer Manis serves as a diaconal minister. A diaco-what? Diaconal ministers connect the church to the world and the world to the church. Jennifer does this at Holy Trinity by working with Lutheran Campus Ministry-Raleigh.

Not a Meredith Angel or part of the Wolfpack, Jennifer cheers for a lighter shade of blue even though she studied at that dark blue school down the street. With degrees from Duke University Divinity School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - School of Social Work, Jennifer’s deep joy resides at the intersection of church and community as she seeks to empower all people to live fully in the Holy One’s redemptive grace.

Jennifer shares a home with her life-partner Charles and their life-dog Emma. Together they explore state parks, sing on a whim, play board games (okay, Emma doesn’t play board games), and dance just because. Left to her own devices, you will probably find Jennifer curled up with the latest Inspector Gamache mystery or laughing at the wittiness that is David Sedaris. Jennifer believes every day should include a good cup of coffee, chocolate, a walk, and a good laugh - the kind where you can’t breathe.

A native Floridian, she feels most at peace near the ocean and in the sunshine. She loves to dabble with the power and beauty of words, writing poetry for fun and writing prayers for Augsburg Fortress publications. Her current retirement dream is to adopt all the dogs at the animal shelter and have a dog farm a la the ending of 101 Dalmatians.

So if you’re interested in volunteering on the farm in 30 years, talking theology, advocating for God’s justice, or stumbling along together through this hot mess we call life surrounded by grace, mercy, and love - send Jennifer an email… She’s not the best at checking her voicemail and has been known to forget her phone at home on more days than one.
