Adult Christian Education Committee

Matt Stallmann, chair

Members: Debbie Franke, Sandy Paur, Pastor Yount.

The primary focus of the Adult Christian Education Committee is to oversee the offerings for adults during the Sunday School hour. There have been three classes offered regularly in addition to the Inquirers Class for prospective new members:

  • Forum: a variety of topics both as a single session or longer series,
  • Augsburg (formerly Laura Efird): Bible study with quarterly themes, and
  • Old Testament: a sequential study of the books of the Old Testament.

The Forum classes this fall have dealt with topics such as end-of-life issues (hospice care, funeral arrangements, when to stop extraordinary measures that prolong life), affordable housing, and the difficulties faced by gay Christian young people.

During the summer there was a series of classes, each dealing with a Saint whose commemoration occurred that week. Starting in October, Judy and Warren Keyes introduced an ongoing book study based on Tell It Slant, by Eugene Peterson.

The Augsburg, Old Testament, and the more recent book study each have a core group of members who attend regularly, except when the entire group decides to attend the Forum because of a topic of universal interest.
