The mission of the African Outreach Ministry (AOM) is to reach out with Christ-like arms to welcome our African brothers and sisters to the community of Raleigh and the family of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in a manner that makes them feel valued and nourished in their spiritual, social, and physical needs. Programs of this ministry include:

  • Assisting people in securing an immigration status that allows them to live in the United States and to reunite their families.
  • Offering workshops on resume writing, job searching, completing income tax forms, and other topics that enable people to secure good jobs and become productive members of their new community.
  • Nurturing children by providing school supplies, sponsoring participation in extracurricular school programs and summer camps, and assisting parents in utilizing community resources available to their families.
  • Supporting the training and education of seminarians.

In accord with the ELCA mission for diversity and HTELC's commitment to be a welcoming church, we seek avenues that enable our African brothers and sisters to tell their stories within our church family and in the larger community with an underlying awareness that we will all be enriched by the sharing and deepening of faith that grows from seeing the Lord's work in bringing us together.

We welcome volunteers to lead life- and job-skills workshops; provide tutoring to children, young adults, and adults; and serve as cultural ambassadors to connect families to resources in our community. Please email us to find out how you can be part of this ministry.
