The Missions Committee coordinates the mission activities of Holy Trinity, including support for global missionaries, local mission churches, and other mission opportunities as they arise.
Come explore the connection between mission and spirituality and find out how to become a person whose commitment to service in the world flows out of a rich spiritual connection with the God of love. Poverty and injustice are understood as problems of the whole human community, not only of those individuals who are poor and vulnerable. Learn how the ELCA uses the accompaniment model to walk in solidarity with those who struggle. Explore ways in which Holy Trinity embraces the emphasis of serving the global world as we grow in our global awareness and support for others.
As a response to global awareness, the committee has been involved in projects concerning Nicaragua, including becoming part of an interfaith partnership called the Raleigh-San Ramon, Nicaragua Sister Communities. Holy Trinity works with two other local churches in this group. It is committed to helping people in San Ramon, Nicaragua through social and economic development projects, which support justice and the belief in an interdependent, one-world family.
The Missions Committee has partnered with Lutheran Peace Fellowship to hold a Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East. Prayer vigils for Middle East peace are held every day of the year in cities all over the US by congregations from many different faiths. These ecumenical prayer sessions began on December 3, 2000, when the presiding ELCA bishop proposed a continuous prayer vigil throughout the country, and will continue until Middle East violence ends and we can celebrate a just and lasting negotiated resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
