Spring Congregational Retreat


Deepening Our Experience of God


This spring, Holy Trinity is offering an overnight retreat to members of our congregation on the topic of Deepening Our Experience of God. In this retreat, we will explore a number of spiritual practices we can use to strengthen our relationship with God and deepen our spiritual journey. In each session, presenters will introduce a particular spiritual practice which we will then each use in a period of silent, individual meditation. At the end of each session, there will be time to discuss the spiritual practice.

The retreat will be led by members of Holy Trinity. We will open with a short Taize worship service with Sharon Freeze and Pam Pittenger as musicians and close with a short Eucharist service led by our pastors. The four spiritual practices that will be included are Centering Prayer (presented by Chuck Korte), Praying with Scripture/Lectio Divina (Pastor Larry), Walking Meditation/Labyrinth (Chuck Korte), and Journaling as a Spiritual Practice (Pastor Royall). There will be free time to enjoy the beautiful setting.

Avila Retreat entrance

This 24-hour retreat will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4. It will be held at the Avila Retreat Center, which is located north of Durham about 40 minutes from the church. We will have a light supper on Friday and breakfast and lunch at Avila on Saturday.

Retreatants will be in twin-bed double rooms with pairs of rooms sharing a bathroom. There are also small single rooms with a shared bathroom down the hall. For an additional $15, retreatants can be by themselves in one of the double rooms.

The cost of the retreat is $85 per person. Registration is limited to the first 18 people who register and pay. The deadline for registration is April 26. Directions to Avila and other retreat information will be sent after you register. If it proves necessary, priority will be given to those who did not attend the fall retreat.

Registration


You may register in one of two ways:

1. Using the Vanco Services, LLC online-giving website and email:

  • Determine your cost ($85 per person in a double room; $85 one person in a single room; $100 one person in a double room.)
  • Navigate to the Vanco Services, LLC website through this link: DONATE
  • On this screen, in the "Other" category, type in the proper amount and specify its purpose as "Spring Retreat." Below, select "One Time" as the "Donation Frequency," then click "Continue."
  • On this page, please fill in the required information, then decide if you will pay by withdrawal from your checking account or savings account, or by credit card or debit card. Click on your choice, then fill in the required information.
  • Click "Process." Another screen will appear, on which will be a Confirmation Number. Copy this number.
  • Send an email to Chuck Korte (pckorte@att.net) that includes all of the information requested on this form. Alternatively, you may print and fill out the form, then mail it to the church office (2723 Clark Avenue, 27607), or put it in Chuck's mailbox outside the church office, or hand it to him in person.

2. Sending a printed form and a check by mail or hand delivery.

  • Please print and fill out this form.
  • Make your check payable to HTELC and include "Spring Retreat" on the memo line.
  • Send the form and check to the church (2723 Clark Avenue, 27607), or put them in Chuck Korte's mailbox outside the church office, or hand them to Chuck in person.
